We love these cable-winder bottle opener key rings. We think they make a great promotional item for under £1. We can print on metal keyrings, which does reduce the price, but we strongly advise against it because the print can get rubbed off over time when it rubs against metal keys.

Anti-Dumping Duties on Ceramic Mugs

According to an EU directive dated November 14, 2012, a provisional anti-dumping customs duty will be imposed on the import of ceramics originating from the People’s Republic of China with immediate effect. The anti-dumping duties imposed by the EU Commission on imported Chinese ceramics lie between 17.6% and 58.8% depending on the manufacturer. As a result promotional mugs are likely to increase in price quite considerably.

From summer 2012 all drivers in France must carry at least one breathalyser kit. This law also applies to the UK motorists. The disposable breathalyser kit must be French NF-Approved.

We've just extended our range of promotional tote bags, with a load of new designs, materials and styles.

A popular option at the moment are our bamboo tote bags, which are available in a natural colour. The material has a softer feel than cotton and takes solid colour prints really well. The USB flash memory market has been severely impacted by the devastating earthquake and Tsunami in Japan. Many factories manufacturing key components to USB flash drives are located in Japan and a number of them have suffered either damage to their facilities or are currently without power. These events have created uncertainty surrounding future supply availability, lead times and pricing. As a result, pricing for USB flash memory has increased in the last few days by as much as 50%.

While it will take time to assess the full extent of this disruption it is clear that the situation is unlikely to return to normal in the immediate future. In order to manage the instability and disruption during this time prices will only be valid for 24 hours and we ask you to check with us the latest lead times before confirming an order.

Chinese New Year

Factories in China are closing for Chinese New Year on 27^th January 2011 for 2 weeks (Chinese New Year itself is on 3^rd February 2011). To dispatch before Chinese New Year we need to receive orders by 1^st December and have all proofs approved before the Christmas break so factories can be instructed to go into production before we break up for Christmas.

The exception is for items that are very quick to manufacture, such as USB memory sticks and laser pointers, where proofs can be approved by end of the first week of January 2011.

ABPI Code Change

The ABPI have changed their code of conduct with regards to promotional aids and promotional items so that all products given away by pharma companies to health care professionals should be in the interests of patients or benefit the NHS whilst maintaining patient care.

Sourcing Trip to China

Mike, Andy and Darren have just returned from a great promotional items sourcing trip to China including a fascinating trip to one of our plastic items factories located near Ningbo, a beautiful city just south of Shanghai. We have returned inspired with some new ideas for various promotional projects and enthused at the factory relationships we have developed.

There are a wide variety of different types of plastic we use to manufacture our plastic items depending on the size, shape, style and function of the item but one of the key elements is not only ensuring that you are using the right manufacturer of the item but also that they in turn are using the right the manufacturers of the plastic resin and therefore ensuring compliance with European REACH and food safety standards.

Another key element is using the right mould manufacturer. A good mould makes a lot of difference and requires good quality steel and high precision engineering. Fortunately we also had the opportunity to visit our mould manufacturer who has extensive experience and is located reasonably near to our plastic moulding factory.

In case you are interested there are various types of plastic moulding including:

Blow moulding - where the mouth has to be smaller than the stomach

Injection moulding - where the mouth is always larger than the stomach

Rotary moulding - eg for watering cans

Our factory offers printing on these items using various different techniques including:

Silkscreen printing - for printing solid colours on curved surfaces

Pad printing - for printing solid colours on flat surfaces

Heat Transfer printing - for printing images on flat or curved surfaces.
